PHILANTHROPY

The brainchild of a Hindu monk, the late Swami Shantanand Saraswati, The Temple of Service Clinics in Chennai, India, are committed to providing free, high-quality medical care to underprivileged communities. Located in K.K. Nagar and Chetpet, these clinics have been serving the public for over two decades. The K.K. Nagar clinic, a dedicated Paediatric Clinic, has been operational for 30 years, while the Chetpet clinic has provided 28 years of comprehensive healthcare, including general outpatient services and specialised care in paediatrics, cardiology, diabetes, psychiatry, dentistry, and siddha medicine.

The clinics, staffed by a team of 7 doctors, focus on health promotion, disease prevention, and personalised care models tailored to the needs of children and the elderly. These clinics are strategically placed in low-income areas to ensure accessibility, especially for the elderly, and integrate hospital and community-based services to reduce hospital admissions and improve patient outcomes. As of December 2024, The Temple of Service Clinics have served over 250,000 patients in their outpatient clinics.

Virtually since its inception, these clinics have successfully implemented a “Milk Programme” that provides milk after school to approximately 40 underprivileged children from the neighbourhood. Over the years, the Temple of Service Clinics has sponsored over 450 patients for complex treatments at private hospitals. Also, these Clinics have periodically hosted “Dental Camps” for the underprivileged to facilitate access to dental care and promote oral health.

In 2018 Ramesh Balasubramaniam aided in the establishment of the Temple of Service Limited, an Australian based charity registered with the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission. This charity provides financial support to the two clinics in Chennai, ensuring that they continue to offer free medical care to the underprivileged, contributing significantly to the health and well-being of the communities they serve.

Charity donations of AUD$2 or more to the Temple of Service Limited are tax-deductible in Australia. You will be emailed a personalised receipt in your name.
